The short version
- We collect your email, a record of your consent, where your visit came from, your country, time zone and language, and whether you opened your guide. If you buy a guide, Stripe tells us what you bought; we never see your card. (Section 2)
- We use it to send your guide and, if you opted in, our newsletter, to write in your language at a sensible hour, and to see which channels and offers work. (Section 3)
- We do not sell your information. We share it only with the service providers in section 4. Pages with our videos connect your browser to YouTube as soon as they open. (Sections 3, 4 and 4a)
- Our emails are sent through Brevo, which records whether each email was delivered, opened and clicked; we use this only to check that your guide arrived and to count what works. (Sections 2 and 4)
- Unsubscribe from our newsletter with the link at the bottom of each newsletter email. To have your information deleted, write to hello@aromalba.com. (Section 6)
The full policy is below.
What this policy covers
This policy covers aromalba.com, our free and paid tea guides, our newsletter, and purchases made through links on this site. It does not cover our YouTube channels directly (see YouTube's own Privacy Policy for that), only what happens once you reach our site.
Information we collect
- Your email address, when you request a free guide or subscribe to our newsletter.
- A record of your consent: the time, your IP address, the version of the consent text you saw, the language and page you signed up on.
- The source of your visit (UTM parameters, such as which video or platform brought you here) and which version of a page you saw in an A/B test, so we can tell which channels are working.
- Basic location and language signals: the country and network your connection comes from (Cloudflare works these out from your IP address), the time zone set on your device, and the languages your browser asks for. From these we also note whether a connection looks like it comes from a VPN or a data center. We store the country, not your IP address; your IP address is kept only in your consent record.
- When you open your guide from the link in our email, our site records that it was opened, together with your signup number. The link carries that number; it does not carry your email address.
- Our emails are sent through Brevo. Brevo records whether each email was delivered, opened and clicked; we use this only to check that your guide arrived and to count what works. To do this, each email contains a tiny image, and its links first pass through r.em.aromalba.com before taking you to our site. When you open or click, Brevo's servers receive your IP address and basic browser information, as with any web request.
- If you buy a paid guide or book through this site, your payment is handled by Stripe or Amazon directly; we do not see or store your card details.
- If you buy a paid guide through this site, Stripe tells us your email address, what you bought, the amount, and the country of your billing address, so we can deliver it and help you if something goes wrong.
How we use it
- To send the guide you requested and, if you opted in, our newsletter.
- If you ask for the guide again with an address that is already confirmed, we send it again, no more than once a day.
- If you ask us to tell you when a new book comes out, to send you one email about it. After that email, we take you off that notice list.
- To measure which channels and pages bring the most subscribers.
- To write to you in your language, send our emails at a sensible hour in your time zone, link to the Amazon store for your country, and show offers that are available where you live.
- To see whether the guide you asked for reached you and was opened, so we can send it again or remind you about it, and to count which countries and languages our readers come from.
- To remember which offer you saw on our thank-you page, so our emails match it, and to compare which pages and offers work better.
- We do not sell your information, and we do not share it except with the service providers listed below, who process it on our behalf. Embedded videos are the one exception; see section 4a.
Service providers
- listmonk, our own mailing list software, running on our own server.
- Brevo, an email delivery service, which sends our emails to your inbox and counts their opens and clicks in total (see section 2).
- Cloudflare, which hosts this site, stores your signup request briefly, checks that signups are not automated (Turnstile), and tells us the country and network your connection comes from.
- Cloudflare Web Analytics, a cookieless page-view counter; it does not track you individually or across other sites.
- Stripe, for any paid purchase. Under Stripe's Managed Payments, Stripe is the seller of record for digital purchases; your payment information and any refund request are handled by Stripe.
- Amazon, for book purchases; once you click through, Amazon's own privacy policy applies.
Videos on this site (YouTube)
Our recipe pages show our own videos in an embedded YouTube player. The player is one of the YouTube API Services provided by Google. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).
- When you open a page with a video, your browser connects to YouTube before you press play. YouTube receives your IP address, the address of the page, and basic information about your browser and device. Google says the player uses this to show the video's image and title, to check whether the video can play, and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- YouTube may store or read cookies or similar technologies on your device.
- In privacy-enhanced mode, watching a video here is not used to personalize your YouTube experience or the ads Google shows you on other sites.
- YouTube handles this information on its own behalf, under the Google Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/privacy) and the YouTube Terms of Service (https://www.youtube.com/t/terms). Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services here: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites
- We do not receive personal information about you from YouTube.
- If you prefer not to connect to YouTube, you can block youtube-nocookie.com in your browser. The full recipe is written out on every page, so you can still use it without the video.
How long we keep it
- We keep your information for as long as we run this site and our mailing list and need it for the purposes in section 3, unless you ask us to delete it (section 6).
- This includes your signup request and consent record, the source of your visit, the location and language signals from section 2, and whether you opened the guide.
- If you never click the confirmation link, we don't email you again unless you sign up again, but we keep the request for our statistics.
- After you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you. We keep your record so we don't email you again by mistake and for our statistics. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
- Purchase records (your email, the product, the amount and your billing country) are kept for at least 3 years, for support, refunds and our accounting.
- Backup copies are deleted within 30 days.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from our newsletter using the link at the bottom of each newsletter email, or by writing to us. Unsubscribing also cancels any book notice you asked for. To ask us to delete your information entirely, write to hello@aromalba.com. We will remove your address from our mailing list and our records within a reasonable time.
Legal basis
We send the guide, the newsletter (new recipes and tea notes, sometimes with news about our guides and books), and any one-time book notice because you asked for them and confirmed your address (your consent). We measure which channels and pages work because it is in our legitimate interest to run the site, and we keep the consent record to prove your consent. We use the location and language signals, the guide-opened record, Brevo's open and click totals, and your billing country on the same basis, our legitimate interest: to write to you in your language at a sensible hour, link to the right store, and know what works. You can object at any time by writing to us.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing; this does not affect what we did before. If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Transfers
We are based in the USA, and our service providers, including Brevo, process your information in the USA and other countries, including the European Union. YouTube processes the information described in section 4a in the USA and other countries.
Children
This site is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
How we make our content
The voices you hear in our videos are synthetic (AI-generated). Our recipes, scripts, guides, and site text are created with AI tools. Nothing here is medical advice.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date above shows the latest version.
